Nov 21, 2018Tippett Hospice Home in Needham.He was the husband of Robin (Bestwick) Friel.Son of Joseph Friel and Margaret (Ewell) Friel, he was born in Charlestown and raised in West Roxbury. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School with the Class of 1962.Mr. Friel worked as a lineman and foreman for the New England Telephone Company for 43 years.He raised his family in Walpole, where he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and served as president of the Lions Club.Mr. Friel spent his retirement in Falmouth, wintering in Naples, Florida.An avid NASCAR fan, he often watched the races at the track in Laconia, New Hampshire.He was the first to donate to fund the creation of the Falmouth Dog Park, where the memorial mosaic Cleo’s Corner is a tribute to his son, Jason M. Friel, who died in 2005.In addition to his wife, he leaves his two daughters, Lauren J. Cummings and her husband, Steven Cummings, and Amy E. Friel and her husband, John Rosenthal, all of Norfolk; six grandchildren, Corey Cummings, Catherine Cummings, Christian Cummings, Cameron Cummings, Ben Rosenthal and Drew Rosenthal; four siblings, Marsha McDonough of Falmouth, Margaret Sittig of West Roxbury, Kevin Friel of Falmouth and John Friel of West Roxbury; and many extended family members.In addition to his son and his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Friel.A celebration of Mr. Friel’s life will be Monday, October 29, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street in Walpole.A funeral service will follow at 11:30.Burial will be at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.
